Saint-Gobain Ceramic Materials – Retained Capabilities
Saint-Gobain Ceramic Materials recently completed the sale of certain business units in its Advanced Ceramics business to CoorsTek of Boulder, Colorado.
The sale reflects Saint-Gobain Ceramic Materials’ strategy to focus on activities with high technological content, and a global leadership position in terms of innovation and product development.
Saint-Gobain Ceramic Materials operates 22 sites dedicated to the manufacture of specialty high performance products around the world and benefits from two state-of-the-art primary Research & Development facilities located in the United States and France. High Performance Refractories (HPR) is a division of Saint-Gobain Ceramic Materials.
Within HPR, major product categories retained by Saint-Gobain include:
- Advanced SiC products: Recrystallized Silicon Carbide, Silicon infiltrated reaction bonded SiC, Advanced Silicon Nitride bonded SiC, pressureless sintered SiC
- Bonded Refractories: Silicon Nitride and Sialon bonded materials, Silicate bonded SiC, as well as Mullite, High Alumina, Alumina-Chrome, Chromium oxide, Tin oxide, Zirconia, Zirconium silicate, Cordierite and Spinel materials
- Pre-Formed Castable blocks based on low and Ultra-low cement castables
- Resin bonded Alumina-Carbon bricks
- High purity Insulating Fire Bricks
- Fused cast Refractories : AZS, High Alumina, High Zirconia and Magnesia-Chrome
- Monolithics: Regular and low cement castables, Dry Vibratable Cements, Blast furnace tap hole mixes, Gunning, Ramming and Trowelling mixes
Saint-Gobain Ceramic Materials’ continues to provide the following portfolio:
- Hexoloy® silicon carbide:
- Armor, chemical processing, high-temperature, alternative energy applications. Hexoloy silicon carbide powder capabilities and assets remain fully under Saint-Gobain control and ownership. This assures the same 100% vertical integration to develop engineered solutions for our customers.
- Ceramic Systems:
- LO-MASS® SiC kiln furniture for various industries including abrasives, ceramic substrates/diesel particulate filters, dinnerware, refractories and sanitaryware.
- Bonded alumina, zirconia and other specialty products (saggers, setters, batts, brick) for customized solutions in high temperature, atmosphere kiln/furnace applications.
- Energy Systems:
- Nitride bonded silicon carbide and silicon carbide cements for the Waste to Energy market
